4 Useful Facts About London City Airport

London City Airport is located in the heart of London, which is considerably closer to the action than the likes of Gatwick, Heathrow, and Stansted. Curious what distinguishes this prime piece of airstrip? Keep reading, and we’ll fill you in on all the details!

Street address and location

The official address of London City Airport is Hartmann Rd, London E16 2PX. This is east of central London, however only a few kilometres away from areas such as Canary Wharf and Greenwich. In fact, if you’re staying in any part of east London, travelling via London City Airport can save you a lot of time.

Getting to and from London City Airport

There are a few options to choose from when it comes to transport. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is by far the most convenient with trains departing every 8 to 15 minutes, meaning you can catch a ride quickly and at a sensible rate.

The DLR connects all of east London and has several connecting stations to the rest of the city. Oh, and if you don’t have one already, consider getting an Oyster card for this occasion!

In a hurry, or prefer to avoid public transport? Cabs are lined up outside the terminal building all day and can take you anywhere you need to go. Alternatively, it’s possible to engage in car hires from Avis & Budget, Europcar, or Hertz — even on the weekends.

Please bear in mind you might have to book ahead of your arrival to ensure availability and special needs.

Departures and arrivals

London City Airport serves over 30 different destinations throughout Europe. These include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Malaga, Prague, and many other hotspots. Albeit, if you’re travelling outside of Europe, you’ll have to catch a connecting flight from one of the available destinations or one of London’s other airports.

In terms of airlines, several companies are flying to and from London City Airport including:

  • ITA Airways
  • British Airways
  • KLM
  • Lufthansa
  • Luxair
